Bob has an easy presence drawing on many styles, including elements of folk, bluegrass, Celtic, Brazilian, gospel, jazz and rhythm and blues.

  • Men’s Breakfast

    The Men’s Breakfast Club welcomes Shrewsbury Fire Chief James M. Vuona-MPA, CFO. Chief Vuona has held this position since 2010 having served as Fire Captain/EMT from 2002-2010 and Firefighter/EMT from 1993-2002. He is the Local Emergency Planning Committee Coordinator with SEMA and has contributed to numerous committees associated with the Fire Department. Chief Vuona has received a myriad of awards and honors including the MA Fire Chiefs’ Leadership in Fire Education Award and the Life Safety Achievement Award from the National Assoc. of State Fire Marshals. He currently serves on the MA Public Fire and Life Safety Education Task Force. All are welcome to attend Chief Vuona’s presentation this morning concerning the workings and implementation of new technologies within the fire department in an effort to keep us safe.

    Tour of “Radiance Rediscovered: Stained Glass by Tiffany & LaFarge”.
    This exhibition will feature 2 sets of exquisite memorial windows made by the 19th century’s most recognized innovators of American stained glass: John La Farge and Louis Comfort Tiffany. Originally made for Boston’s Mount Vernon Congregational Church in 1898 and 1899, the windows were transferred to the Museum in 1975, where they had been relegated to storage for more than 40 years. This exhibition will feature the carefully conserved windows alongside La Farge’s experimental cloisonné glasswork in order to highlight the artists’ design methods and aesthetic influences. Previous registration required.

    Since the late 1990’s, Stephen Collin’s one man show performances have captured the attention of audiences young and old. It is not just the stunning resemblance to Walt Whitman himself, which many reviews notice, but the portrayal of the character and the essence that he brings within arm’s reach that makes the poet come to life. It is not surprising that in some reviews, the writer switches Collins’ name and Whitman’s interchangeably. Be sure to join us for an evening with one of America’s most celebrated poets.

  • Classical Pianist Fred Moyer

    During over thirty years as a full‐time concert pianist, Frederick Moyer has established a vital musical career that has taken him to forty‐three countries and to such far‐flung venues as Suntory Hall in Tokyo, Sydney Opera House, Windsor Castle, Carnegie Hall, and the Kennedy Center. He has appeared as piano soloist with most of the major orchestras of the United States as well as many orchestras of Europe, Asia, South America, Africa and Australia. We are always delighted when Fred’s vigorous touring schedule enables him to stop by Southgate for an afternoon of musical magnificence.

Then we will travel down to Portsmouth at the mouth of the Piscataqua River to explore the colorful flower gardens of Prescott Park and the gardens of the Moffatt-Ladd House. Join us for inspiring photos mixed with Michael’s warmth and humor, fascinating history, local lore, and zany trivia.

    “The New Black Eagle Jazz Band”
    If you like the uplifting and soulful music of New Orleans you’ll love the sound of the New Black Eagle Jazz Band. The band has delighted audiences all over the world with their huge and eclectic repertoire of jazz from the 1920’s and 30’s. The group has a mature mastery of this great American music- from Louis Armstrong and Jelly Roll Morton to early Duke Ellington to Cole Porter; from blues to rags to gospel and popular songs of the era. The group makes their Southgate debut with us this evening.
