  • Regatta Players present “Dirty Rotten Scoundrels”

    Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, based on the popular 1988 MGM film, takes us to the French Riviera for high jinx and hilarity. Sophisticated, suave with a good dash of mischief, this hysterical comedy was nominated for a staggering eleven Tony Awards. Additional ticketed public performances are Sat. Aug 3rd and Sat. Aug. 10th at 7:30 & Sun. Aug. 4th and Sun. Aug. 11th at 2:00 pm. Southgate Residents Exclusive Performance, Friday Aug. 9th at 7:30 pm. Southgate Residents are admitted to this performance free of charge.

    Throughout its 40-year history, the Kennedy Center Honors has redefined America’s perception of its artistic legacy and reinvented the way this nation rewards its artists. The Honors have been compared to a knighthood in Britain, or the French Legion of Honor–the quintessential reward for a lifetime’s endeavor. The annual gala serves as the year’s crowning event for millions of American arts lovers as we pay tribute to our nation’s preeminent artists with performances by great stars who have followed in their footsteps. Let me repeat that “as we pay tribute to our nation’s preeminent artists with performances by great stars…” And WHO KNEW those great stars live right here at Southgate? And WHO KNEW the Kennedy Center Honors gala would be held right here at Southgate in November? It’s our 30th anniversary and we’re celebrating in a big way! ALL are welcome to join us this afternoon to find out how they can participate in the fun! There is something for everyone because ‘the best of times is NOW’.

  • Art Gallery Exhibit Reception

    Our next art gallery exhibit features the work of Susan Scott Kenney. Susan has a BS in Art Education from Southern Connecticut State University and a Masters of Art Ed from the Hartford Art School. She was also an art teacher in the Dudley -Charlton School system. Susan works in a variety of media but is primarily an acrylic painter. Her subject matter has evolved and changed over the years but her love of color remains a constant. She is a member of Connecticut Women Artists and is President of The Norwich Art Center Gallery and exhibits in a variety of venues. The reception will also feature classical guitarist Peter Clemente. Refreshments will be served.

The group has a mature mastery of this great American music- from Louis Armstrong and Jelly Roll Morton to early Duke Ellington to Cole Porter; from blues to rags to gospel and popular songs of the era.     Following our scrumptious breakfast buffet, we welcome historian and author John O’Toole. John is a retired adjunct Professor of History from Worcester State College and is a group leader for the WISE program. He also spent many years teaching high school in the MA area. He holds a masters degree in History from Northeastern University in Boston. John is the author of several books including “Tornado: 84 Minutes, 94 Lives” which describes the devastating Central MA tornado of 1953 and is the topic of his lecture this morning. He is the recipient of many awards and honors on the national and international level. All are welcome to join us for the presentation at 9:30 am.

  • Guitarist Bill McCarthy

    Fronting several Cape Cod bands in the late1970’s and early-1980’s and, after settling down in Worcester, MA in 1984, Bill McCarthy has been a popular performer around Worcester County, Boston Metro West, and Cape Cod for over thirty-five years.
