Prediabetes Awareness & Diabetes Prevention: What You Need To Know January 18, 2021 - Diabetes awareness and prevention is always a hot topic among the senior population, but what about prediabetes? Awareness of prediabetes is incredibly important to our overall health, yet the CDC estimates a staggering 88 million American adults have prediabetes and 84% of those are unaware they have it! So what is prediabetes? Simply put, prediabetes occurs when blood sugar levels are higher than normal, but not high enough to be considered type 2 diabetes. Prediabetes doesn’t have any clear symptoms, so it often goes unnoticed and undiagnosed. The good news is that a prediabetes diagnosis does not mean... Read More

  • Art Matters

    11:00 am-2:00 pm
    01/03/2020

The Great American West. American artists have been like America itself, pioneering, bold, and independent; especially in the western frontiers where artists were confronted with a totally new and unbelievably beautiful landscape, an alien culture and a dramatically different life style. It fascinated everyone, especially the jaded and complacent Europeans who were enthralled and seduced by the Western American experience. But, it was all over in just 90 years. It took only one life span to end this chapter of our history; from the virgin exploration through pristine lands to the massacre of millions of bison; the pioneers, trappers, cowboys, settlers, miners, and the total redistribution of native Americans in the Indian Wars. Please join Art Matters for a look at a very brief but special time in our nation’s history through the eyes of artists who tried to capture the flavor of a lost era and preserve it for us.

    9:15 am-11:00 am
    01/08/2020

Our Women’s Circle Breakfast welcomes our State Senator, Michael Moore. His topic is A Dose of Advocacy: Effective Approaches to Legislative Activism. He will speak to us about legislation passed by the Massachusetts Senate aimed at addressing the high and rapidly increasing cost of prescription drugs. The bill, entitled An Act Relative to Pharmaceutical Access, Costs and Transparency (PACT Act), seeks to reduce drug costs to patients and lower health care costs overall. Sen. Moore will briefly highlight provisions of the bill and center the discussion on effective means of advocating for legislation pending before the Legislature. Sen. Moore was elected to represent residents of the Second Worcester District in the MA Senate in November 2008. Born and raised in the town of Millbury, Sen. Moore has devoted his entire adult life to public service. He currently serves as Senate Chair of two legislative committees including Public Safety and Homeland Security and Bonding, Capital Expenditures and State Assets and is a member of five additional committees including the Sen. Committee on Ways and Means. Sen. Moore is also engaged in national policy forums such as the Global Justice Information Sharing Initiative Advisory Committee, which advises the U.S. Attorney General.
