Women's Circle Breakfast
Our speaker for the Women’s Circle Breakfast on April 14 is Professor Ben Railton, Professor of English and American Studies at Fitchburg State University. The title of his presentation is The 1893 World’s Columbian Exposition in Chicago. He will present this as a linchpin to tell the stories of a number of prominent Americans and how their stories and histories intersected with the fair, making it a defining moment that illustrated where America had been, where it was headed, and where we are as we grapple with these legacies today. Focal figures include Frederick Law Olsmsted, Ida B. Wells, Chief Simon Pokagon, Helen Keller, and many more. Professor Railton earned his Ph.D. in English and American Literature from Temple University and has been at FSU for 16 years. He has taught numerous courses in American Literature and Studies at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.
