  • Summer Concert Series: “Riverboat Stompers”

    In 1990 Joe Masters decided to pull together local musicians to play traditional jazz. In the early days they were known as The Classic Jazz Ensemble. By 1995, however, a core group of players emerged – three of whom continue to the present day! Soon the band developed a musical style of its own and gained a reputation for quality of play and a bandstand humor that audiences find amusing.

    Our speaker this morning is Ben Railton, Professor of English and American Studies at Fitchburg State University. His topic is “The Inspiring Women (and Men) of the 1850 Worcester Women’s Rights Convention.” The 175th anniversary of the Seneca Falls Convention gives us a chance to better remember other milestone moments as well, such as the first national Women’s Rights Convention in October 1850 in Worcester. Ben will share the impressive and inspiring stories of four women and one man who embodied that Convention and its legacies. Professor Railton has been at FSU for 18 years. All are welcome to the presentation.”

    Men’s Breakfast Club welcomes Shrewsbury Public Library Staff, Priya Rathnam and Diana Karas to chat with our residents about the resources and services available at the library. Diana is the new Outreach and Marketing librarian. She has been working in the library’s Chil- dren’s department for the last eight years and is eager to start in her new role and continue to serve Shrewsbury residents. Priya has been working at the library since 2005 starting as a Chil- dren’s librarian, then moved to Adult Services, became the Asst. Dir. in 2014 and was then hired to be the Director in 2020. Both ladies are Shrewsbury residents and love serving the community. All are welcome to the presentation.

    A retired public school teacher Vic has been playing all over New England for the past 50 years under the name “Vic Paul Single, Duo, Trio, Cocktail Piano.” Vic can be seen regularly at The Tavern at Lenzi’s in Dracut, the Hanover Street Chophouse in Manchester, NH and is currently playing his 25th season in a row on the MS Mt. Washington Cruises on Lake Winnipesaukee. Join us for a fun night of tunes around the piano.
