“There is much more here (at Southgate) to fulfill an individual’s lifestyle. We set out to build a Community.” -Donald F. Flanagan, founder of Southgate at Shrewsbury
In 1969, recognizing the need for a thoughtfully designed and compassion-based alternative care center for seniors, partners Frank O’Connor Sr., Don Flanagan, Henry Camosse, Sr., and Raymond Lauring opened Shrewsbury Nursing and Rehabilitation Center (SNRC).
The extraordinary success of SNRC was the catalyst for the addition of the Shrewsbury Medical Center on campus, which opened in 1972. From its inception, the Medical Center has been filled with private-practice physicians offering a wide array of specialties. The facility continues to uphold its dedication to providing quality healthcare services, including a state-of-the-art imaging center as well as dermatology and audiology clinics.
The last phase of the Southgate development fell into place in 1989, with the opening of “Southgate at Shrewsbury.” With years of research and planning, the partners finally realized their dream of truly providing an unparalleled community for seniors and retirees; the campus was complete.
Today, our Southgate campus is recognized as the premier destination for retirement living, offering Independent Living, Assisted Living, and skilled nursing and rehabilitation services. Still family owned, Southgate has established itself as a sophisticated, arts-appreciative community and is now home to more than 250 active seniors.
