2026 Resolutions
As 2025 comes to a close, it’s time to begin looking ahead to 2026! We hope you accomplished everything you set your mind to this year and that you have new goals and things to look forward to in the coming year.
If you’re looking to make attainable and exciting New Year’s resolutions in retirement focused on self-improvement and connecting with others, we’ve got just the list for you (and tips for how to make them a reality)! Consider the following New Year’s resolutions for 2026:
1. Focus on Friendship
One of the greatest gifts of life is the joy we find in friendships – both old and new! In the new year, consider reconnecting with old friends from every stage of life. You could meet up for a coffee, tea, or dinner or talk on the phone to catch up. If one of your goals this year is to make new friends, consider attending events and clubs, or striking up a conversation with a stranger.
At Southgate at Shrewsbury, we have plenty of opportunities for you to connect with all of your friends. Catch up over a meal with our dining options, or meet up with fellow residents at our arts and crafts studio or woodworking workshop.
2. Be More Mindful
Mindfulness is a great way to relax and center yourself. If you’ve been feeling stressed or overwhelmed, take it upon yourself to find more peace and quiet in the new year.
To practice mindfulness, consider joining a yoga class or learning how to meditate and focus on your breathing. Mindfulness can also be as simple as enjoying quiet moments and reminding yourself to stay present and slow down.
3. Document Your Life
Another great way to stay present and in the moment is to keep a journal and document your daily life and thoughts! You could do so for yourself but also for your loved ones who want to know more about you, your experiences, and what you’ve been through.
If journaling isn’t for you, consider taking up scrapbooking or keeping physical photo albums. So many pictures these days are taken digitally and kept on phones, but a great way to fill your free time could be getting pictures developed and sorted into scrapbooks or albums that your friends and family can look at whenever they come to visit.
4. Give Back To Your Community
If one of your goals for the year is to do something for others, consider giving back to your local community! People all around the state of Massachusetts need a help hand, and it’s easy to find ways to volunteer for local organizations or donate old and new items to those in need. Check out our most recent blog for ideas on where to volunteer and donate near Southgate by clicking here.
5. Try Something New Each Month
Maybe your biggest goal for 2025 is to do something you’ve never tried before! Whether that be a hobby, like painting or gardening, or exploring a restaurant you’ve never been to. Perhaps you want 2025 to be all about new, exciting experiences or about creating something tangible for others to see. If you do something each month, by the end of the year, you’ll have participated in 12 new activities or adventures!
At Southgate at Shrewsbury, we want to encourage our residents to grow and continue learning. To pick up a hobby, make new friends, or give back to your local community, check our calendar of events regularly and take advantage of our incredible amenities. We can’t wait to see and hear all that you accomplish in the new year!
